In October 2004, the World Health Organization (WHO) created the World Alliance for Patient Safety with the aim of developing and promoting policies and safe practices in health care.

Expert committees constituted for this purpose agree that the use of technology is helpful, both for risk prevention in clinical practice, and the optimization of resources used in the procedures involved.
